As an ex-McKinsey consultant, I read with great interest their recent warning to retailers. Beware, “the least effective thing to do in a recession is simply to ‘hunker down’ and ‘weather the storm’,” they told readers of The McKinsey Quarterly at the end of last year. As I read on, I realized that the digital media solutions that YCD offers its clients directly impact each of the initiatives McKinsey was suggesting that retailers take on to combat a recessionary environment. Specifically, how to sell more, reinforce brand differentiation and manage expenses. These are each integral elements of what drives the return on investment in digital in-store media for YCD’s clients.

ThisPlays2 at Benelux’s Free Record Shop

Free Record Shop is the largest Benelux entertainment chain with 70 stores in Belgium and 180 stores in the Netherlands. They carry an assortment of over 300,000 titles in music, movies and gaming. On December 11, 2008 the new Free Record Shop concept store opened its doors in the Metropolis Movie Complex in Antwerp Belgium which welcomes over 3.5 million guests per year. YCD Multimedia solutions were integral to the innovative design of the concept store.

Coke Gets Results with In-Store Digital Media

Coca-Cola, prompted by the dramatic sales uplift of their drink products when promoted on YCD’s AdScreen solution at Aroma Espresso Bars, incorporated in-store digital media into their entire below-the-line (BTL) media plan for 2009. Studies conducted by Coca-Cola Israel showed 16% of the population had visited Aroma and recalled its digital advertising for Coca-Cola Zero.

Banks Come Alive...with the Sound of Music

A December 2008 article in the Israeli newspaper “Maariv” highlighted the results of a study conducted by one of the largest financial institutions in Israel. In the study, 512 people who visited bank branches with no music were surveyed, while another 500 people who visited branches with music were also surveyed. The group that visited the branches with music showed a 35% increase in the feeling of comfort while at the branch.
